Let them praise your great name.—Psalms 99:3.

Unlike some religious people who mistakenly think that they will praise God once they have left the earth and gone to heaven, all of Jehovah’s Witnesses realize the need to praise him here and now on the earth. We thereby follow the example of the faithful servants of Jehovah described at Psalm 99:1-3, 5. As that psalm indicates, Moses, Aaron, and Samuel offered their full support to the arrangement for true worship in their day. (Psalms 99:6, 7) Today, before moving on to serve as priests with Jesus in heaven, the remaining ones of his anointed brothers faithfully serve in the earthly courtyard of the spiritual temple. Millions of “other sheep” loyally support them. (John 10:16) Although having different hopes, both groups unitedly worship Jehovah here at God’s footstool. As individuals, however, we do well to ask ourselves, ‘Am I giving full support to Jehovah’s arrangement for pure worship?’.

[Bring up your children] in the discipline and admonition of Jehovah.—Ephesians 6:4.

Raising children is a major undertaking, especially in today’s world. (2 Timothy 3:1-5) Of course, children are not born knowing right from wrong. They are born with the faculty of conscience, but it needs to be educated, or disciplined. (Romans 2:14, 15) One Bible reference work suggests that the Greek word translated “discipline” might be rendered “child development.” Children who are lovingly disciplined usually feel secure. They learn that freedom has boundaries and that decisions and conduct have consequences—good or bad. How important, then, that Christian parents look to Jehovah for guidance. Do not forget that ideas and methods vary from culture to culture and from generation to generation. When parents listen to God, successful child-rearing does not become a matter of guesswork; nor does it depend on human experience or human thinking.

LOT: Lot lived with Abraham, his uncle, in the land of Canaan. Eventually, Abraham and Lot had so many animals that there was not enough land for all of them. Abraham said to Lot: ‘We can no longer live together in one place. Please choose which way you would like to go, and I will go the other way.’ That was unselfish of Abraham, wasn’t it?Lot saw a beautiful part of the land near a city called Sodom. There was plenty of water as well as green grass. So he chose that place and moved his family there.The people of Sodom and of the nearby city of Gomorrah were very bad. In fact, they were so bad that Jehovah decided to destroy those cities. But God wanted to save Lot and his family, so he sent two angels to warn them: ‘Hurry! Get out of this city! Jehovah is going to destroy it.’Lot did not leave right away. He kept on delaying. So the angels took Lot, his wife, and his two daughters by the hand and rushed them out of the city, saying: ‘Run! Escape for your life, and do not look back. If you look back, you will die!’
